The Samsung Galaxy A17 4G costs from KSh 23,000 in Kenya at Galaxy Brandstore today, for the 4GB/128GB version with a 24-month Samsung warranty. The 8GB/256GB version is the one we recommend if you keep a lot of photos and WhatsApp media. The Galaxy A17 5G is a grey import with no local warranty, and it is out of stock right now. So for most buyers, the A17 4G or the newer Galaxy A18 4G is the smarter pick.

What you get with the Galaxy A17 4G
The A17 is Samsung’s mid-budget phone. It sits above the A07 and below the A27 5G. In plain terms, it is the cheapest Samsung that still feels “proper”: a big AMOLED screen, a steady main camera and long software support.
- Screen: 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, 90Hz
- Chip: MediaTek Helio G99
- Main camera: 50MP with OIS, plus 5MP ultra-wide and 2MP macro
- Selfie camera: 13MP
- Battery: 5,000mAh with 25W charging (charger sold separately)
- Storage: 128GB or 256GB, with microSD support
- Software: Android 15 with One UI 7, and up to 6 major Android upgrades
- Durability: IP54 dust and splash resistance
Who the A17 is for
- Students and first-time Samsung buyers who want a sharp screen without paying A27 money.
- Parents buying a phone that will keep getting updates for years.
- Anyone moving up from an A05, A06 or A07 who wants a better camera.
Who should skip it
- Heavy gamers. Get the Galaxy A37 5G (from KSh 40,000) or Galaxy A57 5G (from KSh 49,500) instead.
- People who need 5G today and want a local warranty. The Galaxy A27 5G (from KSh 35,000) is the cheapest locally warranted 5G phone we stock.
Galaxy A17 4G vs A17 5G: which one should you buy?
Most people in Kenya should buy the A17 4G. Here is why.
| Galaxy A17 4G | Galaxy A17 5G | |
|---|---|---|
| Price at Galaxy Brandstore | from KSh 23,000 | Out of stock |
| Warranty | 24-month Samsung warranty | Grey import, no local warranty |
| Network | 4G | 5G |
| Chip | MediaTek Helio G99 | Exynos 1330 |
| Screen, camera, battery | The same: 6.7-inch 90Hz Super AMOLED, 50MP OIS camera, 5,000mAh with 25W charging | |
5G coverage in Kenya is growing, but most people still spend most of the day on 4G or Wi-Fi. Paying more for a grey-import 5G unit and losing the local warranty is a bad trade for most buyers. If 5G matters to you, step up to the locally warranted A27 5G.
Galaxy A17 vs the new Galaxy A18 4G
The Galaxy A18 4G is the A17’s newer replacement. It costs from KSh 27,000 with a 24-month warranty. The main differences:
- Chip: the A18 moves to Samsung’s newer Exynos 1610. The A17 4G uses the MediaTek Helio G99.
- Software: the A18 starts on Android 17 with One UI 9. The A17 started on Android 15. Both get six major upgrades, so the A18 stays current about two years longer.
- Durability: the A18 is rated IP64. The A17 is IP54.
- Same on both: 6.7-inch 90Hz Super AMOLED screen, 50MP main camera, 13MP selfie camera, 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging.
Pick the A17 4G if you want the lowest price for a good Samsung, or you want 256GB on a budget. Pick the A18 4G if you want the newest model and the longest update life.
